Safety Saturday: Ladder Safety

Every year, more than 100 people die from a ladder-related accident that could be prevented with correct ladder use. March is National Ladder Safety Month. It was created to raise awareness of ladder safety and to decrease the number of ladder-related injuries and fatalities. Join Vogt Engineering in putting safety first; together, we can promote ladder safety and decrease the number of ladder-related incidents that happen every year.
Here are some common ladder safety rules:
- Prior to climbing the ladder, inspect it to ensure it is not damaged and in good working condition
- Set the ladder on even, stable ground
- Secure the base of the ladder and lock the spreaders
- Wear proper footwear
- While on the ladder, maintain 3 points of contact on the ladder and stay centered between the rails
- Don't stand on the top two rungs of the ladder
Falls remain a leading cause of unintentional injury nationwide, and many fatal falls in the last decade have involved a ladder.
As spring cleaning begins, don’t let a simple task put you out of commission. Make sure you are ready to safely tackle all your jobs by following the ladder safety tips listed above!
Whether at work or at home, keep ladder safety front of mind.
